POLYBAR has been launched
Polybar has been launched and added to the long list of ArchMerge packages.

achmerge-polybar-git

This package contains the latest polybar config for your system. Now primed for i3 and openbox. In the future we will add more desktop environments like bspwm, xmonad, herbstluftwm that can benefit as well from a panel.

The package update will be done in /etc/skel. You decide if you want to update with meld or not. The polybar config is in ~/.config/polybar.

You will find lots of tutorials about polybar on ArchMerge.com.

Budgie-git desktop as example of future development
Our goal in Phase 3 would be to install any desktop we want on ArchMergeD. We will perfect this github of ArchMergeD Budgie. We can then use it as a template. Installing bluetooth support or printer support will be the same on any desktop.

You can find the current github at https://github.com/archmergelinux/amd-budgie.

XFCE4
ArchLabs R2-D2 was already heavily interlaced with XFCE4 applications to give users a proper desktop environment. It seemed only logical to supply you the full desktop experience. In this manner we have the vision that linux enthusiasts can start with XFCE4 and get comfortable in this environment. XFCE4 is ideal for starters in linux.

Learning XFCE4, Openbox and i3 would be an ideal learning roadmap of increasing difficulty.

Openbox
We have chosen to have a menu, that is generated on the spot. No need to edit the menu.xml when you add or delete applications. Your menu will automatically change after installing or uninstalling the software. You can choose to have icons in the menu or not. Standard there are no icons.
I3wm
i3wm next gaps is a great way to discover that there are other ways to manage your work. i3wm is for the more advanced and patient linux user. You get a themed and ready to go i3wm environment. The i3wm environment is an awesome tool for work-flow management and will include 10 desktops each with their own specialty e.g web browser on Desktop 1, Editors. Desktop 2, Multimedia. Desktop 3, you get the idea.
